QUENDON & RICKLING GOLF SOCIETY

Quendon & Rickling played Manuden in the inaugural competition for the Inter-Village Challenge Trophy on Thursday, July 10th. The challenge was staged at Saffron Walden Golf Club on what proved to be just about the driest afternoon of the week and, after team meetings with fortification in terms of food and drink, at 2:15pm battle commenced. There were six singles matches and four doubles and, perhaps fittingly for the opening match, the result was a draw with five matches won per team. Everyone had great fun and enjoyed the chance to meet up with nearby neighbours tempered with a little rivalry and good humour. During a well-earned supper at Saffron Walden Golf Clubhouse Manuden's captain, Nikki Atkinson, presented the trophy to Jaine Fieldhouse for Q&R and Barbara Cheney for Manuden. The trophy, kindly donated by Nigel Ackerman, will be duly engraved and we all look forward to the next match. Keep practising and join us if you can.

Biography of Local Man William Winstanley

In 2007 an East Anglian publisher brought out a book about William Winstanley, who lived in Quendon in the seventeenth century. Have a look at the bottom of the Village History Page for more information about this fascinating book.
