Cambridge Road Traffic Survey - 2020

The Parish Council has commissioned a traffic survey in support of its application to address various problems along the B1383 through Quendon.

The outline plans will be put up on a noticeboard outside the pub, and will be published in The Link.

Please see the document here for more detail. Appendices and Drawings are available here.

Police

See Useful Links for relevant Police web-sites.  Quendon & Rickling are covered by the Uttlesford Police area (as the URLs to the individual parts of the web-site tend to change, this is to the main Essex Police site).  In case of emergency use your telephone to call 999, in non-urgent cases use 101, and for general enquiries the local base is at Braintree police station, Blyths Meadow, Braintree, CM7 3DJ; you can contact them by e-mail at: Uttlesfordandbraintreecommunitypolicingteam@essex.pnn.police.uk

The Mobile Police Station no longer visits Rickling Green.

Waste collection

We currently have a three bin waste disposal system in Quendon and Rickling.  See Uttlesford District Council's recycling pages for details.  The Calendar is available here - just add your postcode and select the house name or number.
The small kitchen bin is for kitchen scraps, cooked and uncooked, that are treated to make compost for sale.
The green bins are for dry recycling: paper of all kinds, cardboard, aluminium foil, empty tins and most plastics are acceptable, provided that they are clean.  You can also put glass bottles and jars in the green bins, but not other glass, such as tumblers or window glass.  NO ADDITIONAL RECYCLING WILL BE COLLECTED IF IN BLACK BAGS
The black bins are for non-recyclable waste.

Small kitchen waste bins are emptied every Friday and the other two bins are emptied alternate Fridays.  If you want them emptied you should ensure that the correct two bins are available at the roadside by 07.00am on Fridays (most residents put them out on the previous evenings).

Other Recycling facilities may be found nearby in Newport railway car park, Stansted Mountfitchet main car park (by the castle) and of course at Essex County Council's waste recycling facility off Thaxted Road in Saffron Walden.

More details of current provisions are available from Uttlesford District Council's web-site.

Tree Warden

We are very lucky in our village to have a fully qualified Tree Surgeon to act as the Parish Tree Warden. Robert Rudd regularly inspects the trees around the village to ensure they are healthy and safe.  He also deals with hedges and shrubs.

Mobile Library

Visits by the Mobile Library came to an end on the 30th of June 2014 due to low usage.
For further information please ask at any library or telephone Answers Direct on:

As alternatives to the visiting Mobile Library, Essex County Council offers many other ways to obtain books and other reading matter.  If you find it difficult to get out there is a personal visitor service where a volunteer can come and see you to discuss your reading preferences and arrange for books to be supplied.  See http://www.essex.gov.uk/Libraries-Archives/libraries/mobile-home-library/Pages/Home-library-service.aspx (just click the link - it's a horribly long address!) for details.
The County Library services also offer free e-books in most formats except Kindle (copyright issues prevent this).  They include e-audio books too!  See http://www.essex.gov.uk/Libraries-Archives/libraries/reading/Pages/E-books-and-E-audio.aspx for more about that.

Dropping off at Stansted Airport

As of the 9th of November 2012 the drop off outside the Stansted airport terminal building has been disallowed and you now have to use the short term parking, with costs.  Residents of Uttlesford District Council (UDC) and East Herts District Council (EHDC), UDC and EHDC licensed Hackney Carriage/Private Hire vehicles and low emission vehicles (Band ‘A’ <100g/km CO2) can use the drop off/pick up point with much reduced costs and this is the application procedure.
Please complete an application form for the residents discount card for the Express Set Down at Stansted Airport.  This can be obtained by E-mail from: customerservice@empark.es or it can be downloaded from here.  Once your application has been approved you will receive a discount card in the post.  When entering the ESD car park the entry camera will read your registration number - on exit the cameras will read your registration number and the appropriate rate will be shown on the exit machine - you will need to enter your discount card into the machine and your new rate will be shown._ You can then either enter your credit card for payment or pay with coins into the machine bucket.
You can either email a scanned copy of the form and your supporting documents or return them by post to the address below:

Events in Cambridge

Cambridge is nearby and has an enormous amount to offer.  Aside from the shops, the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Botanical Gardens and the magnificent buildings, it is buzzing with fascinating events every day.  You can take the train to Cambridge (from Newport, for instance) or park the car at one of the Park-and-Ride car parks (free) just outside the city and take one of the frequent and inexpensive buses from there to the centre.  Easy.
