Car park
Due to the continuing increasing costs of maintaining the building and its surrounds we have started to ask for a modest donation from those who use the hall car park but are NOT involved in a booking within the hall.
We request £5 for owners parking for a whole day with a reduced “appropriate amount” for part of a day.
For those local residents who wish to park on a semi or permanent basis we ask £100 per year for a parking permit.
Information on parking can be obtained by calling a trustee on 07909 686627.
Quendon & Rickling 100 club
The maintenance of the hall is supported by the Quendon & Rickling 100 Club. Click here for details including an application form.
History
The Village Hall is situated on the main B1383 (formerly the A11). It is a Victorian building with very little documented history. A map from 1800 shows a building on the site and local elders have said it was once a coffee shop serving travellers between London and Norwich.
The small hall was added in memory of those who lost their lives in the First World War and holds a brass plaque with the names of those who died as well as the rolls of honour for members of Quendon and Rickling who served in both World Wars.
The hall is fortunate to hold The Millennium Wall Hanging which is a wonderful piece of tapestry worked by the ladies of the Village for the Year 2000. It depicts houses and landmarks from the two villages, Rickling Hall and Quendon Hall, churches, pub, school and the Village Green, plus one house from each era (there was not enough room to do every house).
A key to each piece worked is on the Notice Board, along with the names of those who completed it. Also behind each picture there is a linen pocket containing a piece of paper with information about the person who worked it and details of the building.
The Hall has been vested with the Charities Commission and is run by a committee of trustees.
